Over dinner with our partners at Galls in Lexington, KY last year, we not only discovered our mutual interest in military-political
history but also a shared affinity for Kentucky bourbon. And thus was born the idea of merging the heritage of Kentucky
distilleries with patriotic leaders through our history in the 5.11 and Galls “Rocks Glass” collection.
Galls, the authority in public safety equipment and apparel, and 5.11, the leader in tactical apparel and gear for public safety
and tactical enthusiasts, have partnered together since 2003. Together we strive to provide Public Safety Professionals with the
best clothing and gear to handle any situation their job requires. Through our 13 years of partnership, we have spent many
meetings and dinners discussing new and exciting opportunities to serve our customers and show our appreciation for the
tough job they perform every day.
For nearly 50 years, Galls has been servicing the needs of law enforcement, military, security, fire, EMS, postal, public
transportation and more. Each year over 1 million men and women trust Galls to fulfill their essential gear and supply needs.
Over 200 years ago, immigrant farmers began making whiskey from corn not knowing that weather patterns and waiting for the
Spring to ship product would allow them to play a part of American history. This “accidental aging” of the whiskey is what lead to
a smoother, richer and more desirable flavor. In 1964 the US Congress recognized Bourbon as a uniquely American product
and America’s only native spirit. Bourbon is known as the True American Spirit. According to the Kentucky Distillers’
Association, the Bourbon Trail has seen “nearly 2.5 million visitors from all 50 states and 25 countries to the world-
famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail® tour in the last five years alone.” The Bourbon Heritage Center provides more
detailed history for those of you who need the full story.
The January “Rocks” Glass featuring Gen. George S. Patton
George Patton was born in San Gabriel, California on November 11, 1885. Considered one of the most successful combat
generals in U.S history, he was the first officer assigned to the Tank Corps in WWI. During WWII, he helped lead the Allies to
victory in the invasion of Sicily, and was instrumental to the liberation of Germany from the Nazis. The January glass features
one of General Patton’s best-known quotes, “Live for something rather than die for nothing.”
Patton is well known for his colorful language and outspoken nature, but it was mostly an act. He used it expressively to motivate
his men and did not swear in casual conversation.
Interesting things you may not know about Gen. George Patton:
1. He carried a pair of pistols with ivory handles.
2. He was forced to repeat his first year at West Point.
3. He believed in reincarnation and that in his past lives he was a strong military leader like Julius Caesar.
4. Patton was an Olympic athlete.
Each month in 2016, Galls.com will be offering a set of 2 Rocks Glasses with the purchase of $135+ in 5.11 Tactical apparel and
gear. Each set features a different patriotic quote from an influential person in American history. The glasses are available
exclusively through Galls and Quartermaster online.
